Can you still buy a Poulan Pro gas pole saw? Mostly no. Husqvarna, which owns Poulan Pro, says it is no longer producing new Poulan Pro products, and Walmart lists the PP258TPC as out of stock. If you already own one, it is a light 25cc saw that is worth keeping running. If you are shopping, buy a pole saw you can get parts and service for.
Researched, not owned I have never owned a Poulan. I bought a 14-foot pole saw when I moved to 3 acres of tall trees, and today mine is a Stihl HT 131. So this page is built from Poulan Pro’s own manual and the store listings, not from my hands on this saw.
One model number in the searches is not what people think: the Poulan Pro 967044201 is not a gas pole saw at all. It runs on a battery.

Can you still buy a Poulan Pro gas pole saw new?
Not easily. On its Poulan Pro support page, Husqvarna says it is “no longer producing new Poulan Pro products.” I cover what that means for the whole brand in are Poulan chainsaws any good?
Here is what I found for the pole saw itself:
- Walmart lists the PP258TPC (item 967009201) as out of stock, for shipping and for pickup.
- Lowe’s still has a PP258TP page, but it shows no price or stock until you enter a store.
- The later 28cc PR28PS shows out of stock at Tractor Supply too.
- Amazon I could not check, so I have not linked one. If you find a new one there, it is leftover stock.
A used one is a fair buy for a few jobs a year, if it starts and the price is low. Ask the seller to start it in front of you, and look for the model number on the engine so you can order parts.
The 967044201 is a battery pole saw, not gas
A lot of searches pair “967044201” with “gas pole saw.” Lowe’s lists model 967044201 as the Poulan Pro PPB40PS, a 40-volt lithium-ion pole saw with an 8-inch bar, a reach of up to 8 feet, and the battery and charger in the box. No fuel, no pull cord.
This site only covers gas saws, so I am not reviewing it. The one thing to know: 8 feet of reach is 4 feet less than the 25cc gas model’s 12 feet, so it is a different tool for a different yard.
Who the PP258TP suits, and who should skip it
Good fit: a yard or a small acreage with limbs over the driveway, fence line or roof, cut a few times a year. At 25cc and 8 inches of bar, it is sized for limbs, not trees.
Skip it if: you have a lot of tall trees, like I did on my 3 acres, or you trim every week. Then you want a pole saw with a dealer down the road who can fix it.
I have used Poulan saws at work, and starting them was my whole problem. We called them “Pullin’, pullin’, pullin’.” Friends of mine swore by theirs, so that is one person’s experience. But on a pole saw you are pulling the cord, then lifting 12 feet of shaft over your head. If starting already wears you out, it will not get easier up there.
If you already own one: fuel, parts and service
- Fuel: the manual calls for unleaded gas and 2-cycle oil at 40:1, which it spells out as 3.2 fluid ounces of oil to 1 gallon of gas. That is a richer mix than the 50:1 in my Stihl fuel mix guide, so do not fill this saw from a can mixed for a Stihl.
- Bar and chain: the manual lists the 8-inch guide bar and 8-inch chain as user-replaceable parts. Read the numbers stamped on your bar before you order, the same way I do on my Stihl chainsaw chain.
- Parts, manuals and service: Husqvarna says it provides parts, manuals and service resources for Poulan Pro owners, with a servicing dealer locator. Its support promise is written for Poulan Pro products bought before 2024.
The PP258TP manual says to keep children, bystanders and animals at least 50 feet from the work area, to stand slightly to the left of the pruner so your body is not in line with the chain, and to move at least 10 feet from where you fueled before starting the engine. Anything near a power line is a call to your electric company, not a job for you.
What I would buy instead
For a few limbs a year on a budget: my review lists the Maxtra as a 42.7cc gas pole saw with a 10-inch bar and up to about 16 feet of reach. Parts come mainly through the seller, so keep your paperwork. Read my Maxtra gas pole saw review.
For a lot of trees: buy a pole saw from a local dealer who will service it. Mine is a Stihl HT 131, and I buy Stihl from my local Stihl dealer because that is where the warranty work gets done.

The Poulan Pro gas pole saw was a light 25cc tool for limbs within 12 feet, and it is now leftover stock at best. If you own one, mix it at 40:1, keep the chain sharp, and use Husqvarna’s dealer locator for parts. If you are buying, buy something you can get fixed. When a limb is too big or too close to a line, call the pro.
