Husqvarna 460 Rancher review: the short answer
The Husqvarna 460 Rancher is a farm-and-ranch saw: 60.3cc, 3.62 hp and a 24-inch bar. It’s for felling big trees and cutting a lot of firewood on acreage.
At about $650, it’s more saw than most yards need.
Not sure you need a 24-inch saw? Most landowners don’t. My gas chainsaw buying guide matches bar length to your timber and how often you cut.

Who it’s for, and who should skip it
Good fit: landowners felling large trees, clearing land, or cutting a winter’s worth of firewood.
Skip it if: you have a normal yard. It’s heavy and the 24-inch bar is a lot to handle. The 435 or 440 is easier.
Why we like it
We’ve run Husqvarna saws ourselves. They’re sturdy, last a long time and are easy to maintain, especially on a bigger yard or a few acres. The 460 Rancher brings that to big jobs, and the decompression valve makes a 60cc saw easier to start.
Husqvarna 460 Rancher owner’s FAQ
What chain does the Husqvarna 460 Rancher use?
A 3/8″ pitch, .058″ gauge chain. On the 24-inch bar that is usually 84 drive links. Note the thicker .058 gauge: a .050 chain will not fit.
What is the fuel mix for the Husqvarna 460 Rancher?
50:1 with 2-stroke oil.
Can I put a shorter bar on the 460 Rancher?
Yes. It takes bars from 13 to 24 inches. Many owners run an 18- or 20-inch bar for lighter handling. The chain changes with the bar, so match the drive links.
Is the 460 Rancher too much saw for a homeowner?
For a small yard, yes. For a few acres with big trees, it is the right tool.
Which Husqvarna should you buy?
- Husqvarna 120: small yard, light jobs, lowest price. See our Husqvarna 120 review.
- Husqvarna 435: most homeowners; light, easy starting, 16-inch bar. See our Husqvarna 435 review.
- Husqvarna 440: same engine as the 435 with an 18-inch bar for thicker logs. See our Husqvarna 440 review.
- Husqvarna 460 Rancher (this saw): big trees, land clearing and lots of firewood.
The bottom line
Buy the Husqvarna 460 Rancher if you have real trees to drop. Otherwise the 440 will do.
